Bill’s Tomato Game (Megadrive) prototype on ebay

The unreleased Megadrive port of Psygnosis’ Bill’s Tomato Game has surfaced once more, this time on Ebay.

The game had surfaced previously in 2009, and then things went quiet as the quest went on for the elusive dump of the rom. Now there is a big opportunity to get hold of the game and finally preserve it for all to see. Only problem is that you’ll need at least £800 to get it.

It is hoped that if anyone manages to get hold of the game, they will be right away attempting to back everything up and release to the community. So often are these types of auctions picked up by collectors and never see the light of day again.

More details about the game and auction can also be checked out on the excellent Retro Collect website.

  1. Might be worth noting the origins of Brutal Sports Football:

The concept was never actually drawn up as a sports game at all, let alone a clone of anything else out there. On paper at least it started out as ‘Axequest’ and was going to be a horizontally scrolling, fantasy themed beat-em-up, with RPG elements, but designers thought that’d never catch peoples interest, so decided to go the sports aspect instead, as it was something punters could get their heads around, far easier.

  2. Beastball was the working title of Brutal Sports Football on the Amiga as well. Incidentally, the later similar Amiga game Wild Cup Soccer had the working title Brutal Sports Soccer, so they were clearly vaguely planning a series. Maybe development was also done on Brutal Sports Cricket or Brutal Sports Snooker?

    • Hey Martin,

lol, yeah I am a bit of an Amiga fanatic so I knew about the prerelease name. Funnily enough, I only noticed Wild Cup Soccer when I was at HOL last night, seems like it was slated by the press, so I guess I didn’t miss much. It is interesting that similarly only two games saw the light of day in EA’a Mutant League series as well, I think I remember that a Mutant League Racing proto cart was discovered but the battery that powered the eeproms was dead or something…

  3. For those who missed it, this one was dumped and leaked online late last year.

Additionally, another MD proto – Beastball , known as Brutal Sports Football on Amiga & Jaguar, there is a rom that has been floating around for I don’t know how long. I noticed this unreleased version was reviewed in the American mag GamePro, issue 53 (Dec 93) page 80.

Last thing, for all you Toki fans out there, a 7800 proto surfaced on eBay among some other 7800 and Lynx goodies, so go take a gander over at AtariAge if you are interested
