1994 Millenium
Platforms: SEGA Mega Drive and Commodore Amiga
Motor Mania was to be a fun and quirky driving adventure, designed with younger players in mind. You would take control of Mickey the Micra – a cheerful little car and the last one left undelivered before environmental chaos brought the factory to a standstill.
In a clever twist, the game would task Mickey with saving the entire production line by navigating backwards through the factory’s workstations. From the paint shop and wind tunnel to tyre fitting and computer diagnostics, each stage must be revisited in reverse order to fix faults and restore order.
Far from a standard racer, Motor Mania would have combined careful driving with light puzzle elements. You’d need to think ahead, as conserving fuel would be just as important as precision steering.
Due for release for the likes of the SEGA Mega Drive and Amiga, Millenium looked like they were producing a game packed with colour and personality that could have been a lot of fun to play. For reasons currently unknown, the title was cancelled and it isn’t sure exactly how far it got – though from the screenshots, it looked at least playable.
Nothing seems to have surfaced yet of the game, though oddly there is a YouTube video which we thought may have had music from the game, but TJtheWizard2002 confirmed in the comments that it was just some overlaid music from a different game. We’re not sure where the music has come from just yet (perhaps it was by the late Richard Joseph?). If you know anything more about the game, please do get in touch.
With thanks to Karl Kuras for highlighting, TJtheWizard2002 for music correction, Archive.org and SegaRetro for the scans.
The music in that video is not from Motor Mania, but it’s from Mega Anser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgIcSq3SD1Q
The video just used it as background music.
Ah thank you for confirming for us TJ! I’ll update the page quickly.
