Sci-Fi Amiga Source and builds

Thanks to a kind loan by developer Lance Abson, our next Christmas update presents a set of source code and build disks from Sci-Fi (which was released by Digital Magic Software) for you to check out. One of the disks also contains some art assets used within development and may be early versions of artwork.

Some of the disks are executable and seem to be the same as the retail editions. One version though will start on Level 2, and another is an autorunning demo of the game which cannot be played. The disks seem to contain as follows:

  • 001.ADF – DPaint graphics (load in with a DPaint disk)
  • 002.ADF – Build of game (Same as Retail)
  • 003.ADF – Build with different title, and what seems to be a rolling demo only. (Crashses if you try to move).
  • 004.ADF – Source code disk
  • 005.ADF – Build with different loading sequence – starts on Level 2.
  • 006.ADF – Source code disk
  • 007.ADF – Data disk with possible version of game – won’t currently boot.

If you spot anything else of interest, please do let us know!

Something not known about the game, but you’ll notice that there are versions with the cover artwork as the intro, and another version with just the background mountains and pictures of a woman either side. The latter was the original version that was set to be published by U.S. Gold.

However, the agent that Lance used to secure the deal had turned out to be acting in bad faith, attempting to claim exclusive rights to all Lance’s future games.

With thanks to Lance Abson for allowing us to preserve and share with you.
