Time Lords

1988 Deep Thought

Platforms: Amstrad CPC

We seem to be on a bit of a roll at the moment with Amstrad CPC entries, and next up we have a title that none of you will have seen before called Time Lords – and its all thanks to Dean Hickingbottom, who has been busy compiling up code from his archives.

This may well have been a development being done for someone like Martech by Keith Goodyer under his then developer name of Deep Thought. The game has some very strong Exolon vibes to it, which I assume is the game that Dean feels it is similar to.

The demo looks pretty decent with some nice graphics, but is quite early stages. Your main character can jump around and shoot things, but you cannot die and there isn’t any collisions with the enemies or holes in the ground. Dean doesn’t know anything about the game, and it was the first time he had ever seen it when it first compiled.

We don’t believe at this stage that the game got any further than this, and Keith went to work on other titles instead. Overall, its a lovely glimpse of a promising looking title, and a huge shame that it never got any further. If we learn anything more about the title, then we will continue to update this page. For now, check out this long lost piece of CPC gaming history.

With a huge thank you to Dean Hickingbottom for preserving, compiling and allowing Games That Weren’t to release into the archives and Nivs for the link fix heads up.
