1990 Atari
Platform: Atari Lynx
Our next entry in the archives is Monster Demolition, which has had some video footage online of the game running for many years. The game was apparently turned into Rampage, though as you can see – this was looking quite different, with much larger main characters. The game was also renamed to Rampage Deluxe at some point too.

It does seem odd how this started off not as a Rampage conversion in the first place – perhaps they were not confident of obtaining the licence at the time, so started a clone as a precaution? Hopefully we’ll learn more about this one soon from the developer Peter Wierzbicki.
In May 2026, a prototype of Monster Demolition was recovered thanks to the efforts of Marty Goldberg, Mike Lee, Tempest and Dutchman2000 over at the AtariAge forums as part of a large haul of Atari Lynx prototypes recovered. It has around 4 levels in total that you can explore and play with two different selectable characters.
The prototype seems to match that as seen in the screenshots – so we’re not sure if it got much further than this. To me, the game feels a lot more like The Muncher, which in itself was a Rampage clone – but with a much larger character across a larger landscape. Perhaps there was a bit of inspiration from that game?
Anyway, this is an amazing finding – and now it was probably the right time to separate this into its own entry from the original combined one with Impossible Mission. Enjoy!
With thanks to Marty Goldberg, Mike Lee, Tempest and Dutchman2000 for the recovery and to Ross Sillifant for the heads up and scans.
