Escapeque

1991-1994 Stavros Fasoulas

Platform: Commodore Amiga

Escapeque was a game developed around 1991-1994 by Stavros Fasoulas and Tomas Dahlgren (aka. Uncle Tom of Scoopex, who was a known musician in the Amiga demoscene in the early 90s).

The exact genre/premise/gameplay description of the game is unclear, but judging by the graphics made for it (dated 1991-1994 and released as part of Tomas’s entire graphics directory which was dumped in late 2010 by somebody who bought his original Amiga), it would have been a 2D side-scrolling platform adventure game in the vein of Flashback/Another World.

According to a YouTube reply by Tomas, the game didn’t get past the “concept” stage (citing creative differences between him and Stavros, along with the fact that he was working on another game of his at the time):

“Yes, Stavros Fasoulas contacted me about doing some pixels for his new idea. I did several examples and anim-frames of the main character though we never completed anything. It also reminds me that we weren’t really agreeing on what type of theme, or something the game should have, so I just let it go.

He did ask for some of my already completed graphics but I wasn’t ready to release it for this game as I was still working on another idea myself. I kind of regret that now ;) I wonder what the game would have been like if we made any, I’m afraid i wouldn’t have time or energy pixling it all myself, about this time games were getting more complex with larger worlds requiring more visuals and detail, requiring larger teams working on games. I just didn’t have that passion anymore, I think I was into carpenting at the time too.”

If you know anything more about the game, please do get in touch!

  1. P.S. This isn’t the first time Stavros had contacted people from the Amiga demoscene to help with his projects; the music for Galactic: The Vision Game was composed by Jussi “Bruno” Pietilä (who was IMO the absolute best tracker musician of his time), the team for Elfmania consisted entirely of members from CNCD (Carillon & Cyberiad) and Complex (known as Komplex these days), and P.I. Dollarally (another unreleased game of his) had a member of Sahara Surfers as one of its two artists (Janne “Stratos” Oksanen). I guess he really appreciated what those guys could do :-)
