Following on from the recovery of the complete and surprising NES conversion of Sensible Soccer, we have a set of prototypes for the released Game Boy edition with some minor differences leading up to the final release.
Some of the builds don’t have much in the way of differences, apart from that the match length is crazily short for some reason. The most interesting of the prototypes seems to be “sensible-unknown1.gb”, which we think is likely to be the earliest of the prototypes (but with no accurate build date).
This build is missing sound, and the pre-match screens are missing the team names. If you leave the game running, it will go into an automatic demo quite quickly. The scrolling isn’t yet optimized and flickers a lot, and the menu screen has the full logo at the top – as well as a “Specials” option that will crash the game when selected.
There are likely to be other game optimisations and bug fixes across the different builds. If you spot anything that we have missed – please do let us know and we’ll update the page. For now, enjoy!
