Fulltime Soccer Gameboy Color prototypes

Fulltime Soccer is an interesting budget football title that was eventually released by Datel Electronics for the Color Gameboy. It got a very limited release and can be hard to find. But these prototypes recently recovered, reveal that the game was seemingly built over the top of Super Kick Off.

There are two builds in total, plus a 3rd unknown prototype by the same developer which may not be related.  The first build from 23-08-00 is titled “Football Crazy, Football Mad” with some temporary titles and a digitized picture not found in the final game.

The menus look very similar to Super Kick Off, and the music is identical. Once you start the game, you get a fully colourized version of Super Kick Off and much of the same gameplay at this stage. It seems the plan was to utilize and reskin the old game to get new life out of it for the budget title.

What is particularly odd though is the next build from 11-09-00, which has an intro screen saying “Fulltime” (different to the final version we might add!), but with a title saying “BloodBall 2000BC”.  The Colour scheme seems a bit off, and there are some strange team names in there too. The game itself is still pretty much Super Kick Off, but with a colour scheme that looks like the Gameboy original.

Finally, there is an unknown build – which may have just been a test by the developer. It was found with the Football files, so it could have been an early pitch scroll test before deciding to re-utilize the Super Kick Off codebase. We think the basketball game that also got packaged up may have been a reskin of Tip Off, though we haven’t yet found a prototype of that to confirm.

With thanks to Mark Greenshields for allowing us to preserve these prototypes.
