The Last Stuntman

1989 Actual Screenshots

Platform: Commodore Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64 (GTW64 entry)

The Last Stuntman was a game that was due for release from one of CRL’s sub-labels in the late 1980s via Actual Screenshots. Little is known at this stage apart from that the game was split into 6 parts in total – mini-games essentially that were developed by different developers.

Alan Botwright worked on the Commodore 64 edition, which is where we first heard of it – however, thanks to Brendan Phoenix, a rare screenshot from the 16-bit editions was located in Amiga Action issue 1. This shows the last level where you must jump from a plane and fight for a parachute in mid-air.

Thanks to contributor RH in the comments, it seems that the parachute level we see above was actually leaked out as a Public Domain game called Parachute Joust in 1992 by 17 Bit Software.  Either the graphics were re-used or the game was just leaked. We hope to learn more – but that is a great twist to the plot! :)

Unfortunately not much else was known just yet, but we know that Drew Northcott worked on the 16-bit editions. Hopefully we’ll be able to learn more from them in the future. If you know anything more, please do get in touch.

With thanks to Brendan Phoenix for highlighting, RH, Alex Menchi and Amiga Abime for confirmation that the parachute game snuck out and Archive.org for the scan.

    • That is a fantastic spot RH! It’s the same graphics! Which means either the level was being developed by a separate developer in AMOS at the time, or the graphics were re-used in a new project.
After cancellation – developer may have just leaked his part out into the wild.

      The plot thickens! :)
