199? Enigma Variations
Platform: Nintendo Game Boy
Our next entry into the GTW archives is a currently unknown Car Game that was found lurking within the archives of Enigma Variations, and its with thanks to Mark Greenshields that we have been able to reveal it to you.
This was located with other developments, but unfortunately no accurate date for development or details of who it was for exactly. For now we’ve attributed to Enigma Variations, though this is subject to change. We assume it would have been sometime from the mid-late 1990s.
It is possible that it could be an early proof of concept for a Micro Machines engine or something completely different – we hope to learn more soon, but if you know anything about it – please do get in touch. There are extracts of code tucked in the ROM, which might suggest it was built using RGBASM around 1999 time using some example libraries. Was it even a demo example?
For now, check out the early prototype for yourself – where you can drive around a basic track with a little interaction. You cannot crash, but your car slows when driving off track.
With thanks to Mark Greenshields for allowing remains of the game to be preserved.
