Two on Two sports is a Vollyball game from Epyx which was advertised in one of their catelogues in the early 80’s. In their adverts they strangely did drawn screenshots which looked fairly like the final game shots – so we have put these in for now.
The game looks a lot like the standard Summer Games theme, with the same kinds of characters in the drawn shots. Was this by the same developer? Anyway, the game never surfaced for reasons unknown and so the search began for yet another game, and another Epyx sports game too!
In May 2026, Anonymous Contributor had a large deep dive into researching the game and came up with the following details and theories, which i’m copying here as is:
“Two-on-two sports” may have been an early concept for what later evolved into the Epyx Street Sports series. Starting in 1987, Epyx released a series of C64 team sports games called “Street Sports”.

The games released are:
- Basketball
- Football
- Soccer
- Baseball
These were all “sand lot” versions of the sports, i.e. being played in the street with whatever is at hand. How is this related to “Two-on-two sports”? Well, the ad displayed in the GTW entry mentions the following sports:
- Volleyball
- Football
- Soccer
- Baseball
Compared to Street Sports, apart from the volleyball – basketball discrepancy, the sports are identical. AND – the GTW ad goes on to describe the sports as “sand lot” versions, just like in Street Sports.
Street Sports are four separate games, whilst “Two-on-two” at first glance seems to be a single game. At a closer look, though, the ad is somewhat ambiguous on whether this is a single game or a series of games. It does say “this game”, but fitting four complete team sports into a single game would not really make business sense.
So, it could be that “Two-on-two” evolved into Street Sports. If so, the name change could have come about for several reasons, such as:
- Street Sports was a catchier name, more in tune with the times.
- The name “Two-on-two” was already in use by the game “GBA Championship Basketball: Two-on-Two”, released in 1986 while Street Sports was still in development.
https://www.mobygames.com/game/9031/gba-championship- basketball-two-on-two/ - The concept was no longer a “two-on-two” concept.
Why go from volleyball to basketball? Pure guesswork, but basketball may have been seen as having wider public appeal, perhaps judging by “GBA Championship Basketball” mentioned above. Or, the game engine would be simpler to modify into basketball than into volleyball.
