Football Manager 97

Unknown

Status: Preview, Findability: 2/5

Not likely to have been anything official, someone took it on themselves to try and do a conversion of the PC football simulator of the same name and seemed to have a good crack of it.

There seems to be plenty of game mechanics in place, so our guess is that the game stalled due to real life commitments.

With a coder credit, we hope to find out more about the game and what the plans were exactly for it.

In January 2026, contributor Anders Carlsson observed that the game looks and plays like a reskinned version of The Boss (Soccer Boss) by Peaksoft. So perhaps this could be compiled BASIC. The player ratings, method to swap players and hcange formation and the match engine are extremely alike. If programmed from scratch, it certainly was inspired by that game.

  1. Actually it looks and plays like a reskinned version of The Boss (Soccer Boss) by Peaksoft. Perhaps compiled BASIC? The player ratings, method to swap players and change formation and the match engine all seem extremely alike, so if it was programmed from scratch it clearly was more inspired by Harry Whitehouse’s classic game across a number of 8-bit platforms than the Football Manager installments in the 1990’s.

    • Thanks Anders for the observation – i’ll add to the page as a suggestion and that could well be the case. It would make sense to take something already created as a starting point and try and enhance it (especially for a homebrew attempt).
