moonshadow2 2

A short entry for an unofficial sequel to an Italian platform title that was released by Idea software back in 1991. Moonshadow 2 was being created by Darkerror, started in 2018.

A few previews were made, which looked essentially like just modified/updated versions of the original game without much having been changed. However, we’re informed that the code was written from scratch and was just using the graphics and sound from the original game.

There were plans to update the music, graphics and maps and create a true sequel, and Darkerror kept a detailed set of diaries about progress. Though unfortunately for reasons unknown, work halted around 2021.

Darkerror got in touch with GTW via the comments in September 2025, and has confirmed that the project isn’t dead. Development stopped due the passing of his father and workload being affected by the Corona virus. The great news is that he’s picked up the project again and is making progress.

It isn’t known how long the game will take, as its being all done in Darkerror’s free time, but we’ll be sure to update this page and hopefully close the case when its all finished.

We’ll leave this entry in the archives, in case anyone else discovers the preview and wonders what is happening with the project. Sometimes we get submissions for more recent games that seemingly have been abandoned, but in fact have not – so occasionally our pages will hopefully act as a way of flagging statuses too.

For now, check out the previews below and the site linked above for more details. Thanks to Fabrizio Bartoloni for highlighting.

  1. Hi,
    I’m darkerror,

Congratulations on your site (a great source of historical preservation).

    The project isn’t completely abandoned.

Unfortunately, I stopped development because my father passed away around that time, and then the “corona” crisis significantly increased the workload, so I had too little time.

I recently picked up the project again and, in my spare time, I’m making progress.

As already mentioned, the graphics and sound are from the original version (but only for convenience): collision control, shifting between rooms, etc.

I need the music to evaluate the raster time.

I don’t know how much longer it will take me to finish everything, but the project isn’t dead.

It’s still an honor to be mentioned on your site, and I reiterate my congratulations, as well as thank all the participants who always uncover rare and hidden gems for our beloved systems.

    Bye.

    • Thanks for getting in touch Darkerror, i’m really sorry to hear about your father.

That is fantastic to hear the project is still underway. I’ll update the page quickly to say that the game is still being worked on (so if anyone else wonders, they’ll know :) )

Good luck and hope it all goes well!
