Terragon

A very short entry, flagged up to us by Fabrizio Bartoloni. This is for a title called Terragon, which may well have been released, but has yet to be preserved.

This is an Italian title that was being sold by by BA.SE s.n.c and was highlighted recently on Andrea Panchetti’s blog.

The game was described as follows:

“Tactics and strategy among the stars, in a war which, in order not to destroy the earth in a nuclear holocaust, becomes a wild race to expand into space. Become commander of a supership of the future you will have to explore and colonize the space, between dangers of aliens, black holes, ghost planets, magnetic distortions and more; the final result will depend on the intelligence with which you built the on-board computer, as well as your reaction speed and maneuvering skills. From one to four players for a game that combines logical construction and tactical possibilities on a level equal to that of 3-D chess with a high learning facility.”

Hopefully the game can be found some day and crossed off the list for posterity. If you can help find it, please get in touch or with Andrea directly via his blog above.

Code 3

A very short entry, flagged up to us by Fabrizio Bartoloni. This is for a title called Code 3, which may well have been released, but has yet to be preserved.

This is an Italian title that was being sold by by BA.SE s.n.c and was highlighted recently on Andrea Panchetti’s blog.

The game was described as follows:

“Have you ever held another person’s life in your hands? What would you do if you received a desperate call for help? In this situation you will need all your coolness, because a man is dying, and you are the only ones who can help him. To your medical knowledge, but above all to your common sense, the task of solving problems, in the fight against communication difficulties, illness and time. Extreme realism for a game that is also a way to acquire a very useful first aid experience as well as control of a few nerves.”

Hopefully the game can be found some day and crossed off the list for posterity. If you can help find it, please get in touch or with Andrea directly via his blog above.

Ghostbusters 2021

A short entry for now, for what was a very promising Ghostbusters tribute on the C64 in PETSCII format by Dave Izon.

The object of the game was to capture 2 types of ghosts, one with ghost traps and the other which you would hit for bonus points. Once 3 ghosts are caught, you’d head to the elevator and move to the next level. Only one level was ever produced it seems.

Progressing very well as part of a programming exercise to learn about assembly, David Crane advised against releasing the title as he may get in trouble with the licence holders. As a result, Dave seemingly abandoned the game and has no plans to release in any shape or form to avoid any potential copyright issues.

For now we add some screenshots of this promising game, and you can also see a video of the game in action at https://youtu.be/dTGeBUadFk8

Unnamed Pac-Man clone

A short entry which was highlighted thanks to FREEZE64 and a recent interview with Andrew Trott.

In an interview within issue 59, Andrew Trott reveals that he created a version of Pac-Man for the Commodore PET, and then later converted it to the C64, refreshing the graphics and more.

He was in the process of doing all of this, but never quite got it finished.

It’s unsure if anything has survived after all this time, but we hope to find out soon.

Nedime – The Caliph’s Daughter

The next entry in the archives is thanks to Hedning, who found some graphics whilst preserving some disks from a German adventure game by the scener “Schweinepocke”.

It seems that only graphics have been done or at least have survived through two graphics demos that have been released showing title and in-game graphics. There is no playable version as of yet. We’ve also added a bunch of screens thanks to Baracuda as well.

Did it get any further than just some graphic mock ups? Can you help us find Schweinepocke and help learn more about this title?

Early days, so please get in touch if you know anything more about this title.

The Boring Hour

Back in 1988, Robin Harbron and his friend Darren Foulds were working on a wresting game, heavily inspired by The Exciting Hour/Mat Mania by Technos.

They had a bit of fun and added some famous characters in the background and even had something playable running at one stage, with two wrestlers who could move freely around the ring.

There was no AI, and the game was only two players with some basic fighting moves before Robin and Darren moved onto other projects.

Unfortunately Robin has not yet found anything of the demo, but is hopeful that it will turn up some day, so that it can be added to the archives for posterity.

City Connection

A quick entry which has been highlighted by Paul Fogarty – a C64 conversion of the 1985 arcade game by Jaleco.

Paul recalls seeing an advert in a magazine around 1987/88 time (Commodore User or Disk User), and apparently very pink! Advance Software were the company doing the conversion, but then it just disappeared without a trace.

Unfortunately we have been unable to yet find the advert. Can you help us find it?

A ZX Spectrum version from 1988 exists, though we’re not sure if this was official or not, and if it was for Advance Software to release.
